Abstract
The trend of mobile wireless
technologies is the convergence of multiple devices into one single
device. A single device can contain any or all of the following
components, such as cellular phone functionalities, digital camera,
video recording, MP3 player, mobilecellular TV services ( which
include digital multimedia broadcasting [DMB], digital video
broadcasting-handheld [DVB-H], and MediaFLO). The speaker will also
deliver talks on evolution and emerging issues in mobile wireless
networks.
This session will cover the following topics:
Current status of mobile wireless technologies
Current status of digital mobile broadcasting
Digital TV transmission standards
Empirical Findings - research methodology (qualitative and
quantitative analyses); data analysis; and findings
Implications and the future of wireless mobile technology
Evolution and emerging issues in mobile wireless networks
Bio
Dr. J. P. Shim is Professor of MIS
and Director of International Business Strategy Program at
Mississippi State University. As a part of MSU's International
Initiatives, he was recently appointed as MSU's Regional Ambassador
to the Far East. He received his PhD from the University of Nebraska
and completed the Harvard Business School's Executive Education
Program. He taught Information Systems at Georgia State University,
New York University, Chinese University of Hong Kong while he was on
sabbatical. Having written over 150 research papers in the field of
information systems and decision support systems, he serves as
senior editor, associate editor, and editorial board/referee for
numerous Information Systems journals. Professor Shim has received
various professional awards, grants and distinctions, including
National Science Foundation and Microsoft. An eight time recipient
of the outstanding faculty award at Mississippi State University,
Dr. Shim has received awards, including John Grisham Master Teacher
and Ralph E. Powe Research Excellence. Recently, he served as a
program chair for US-Japan e-business conference sponsored by NSF
and is currently serving at Wireless Telecommunication Conference as
program chair and fellow committee chair. As a keynote speaker at
the international ubiquitous and embedded conference, he has also
lectured frequently in the USA, UK, France, Greece, Korea, Kuwait,
Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Jamaica, and China.
